About John Ryan

Artist Statement

My work is primarily highly volatile emotional responses.  Much of my work is a product of personal struggles. I am influenced by dreams, feelings, Freud, comedy, poetry, song, chaos, anxiety, growth, and destruction.  Some of the artists that I am influenced by include: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvador Dali, and Ralph Steadman. My paintings are both spontaneous and planned creations. They are also tight and loose in style. It is a constant process of applying images and editing. My works incorporate a broad range of colors and textures.
